A few weeks ago, we hosted an event that was nothing short of electrifying—a full house, and an audience brimming with curiosity! The night was alive with energy as we dove into discussions that challenged conventional thinking and addressed the most thought-provoking questions from our audience.
Setting the Stage: A Perfect Opening
The event kicked off with presentations from our esteemed partners, ERIA (Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia) and Wu Hub (co-working space). ERIA, with its deep focus on economic research, highlighted the importance of understanding the macroeconomic landscape in today's fast-paced business environment. Wu Hub, on the other hand, emphasized the significance of collaborative spaces in fostering innovation and growth—an essential pillar for startups in the region.

Session 1: The Power Trio
The first session brought together a powerhouse panel featuring Alex Rusli, Billy Suryajaya, and Fanny Verona. Each panelist brought a unique perspective that resonated deeply with the audience.
Pak Alex Rusli - Co-Founder of Digi Asia, Investor, Commissioner, kicked off with a hard-hitting truth: "Frugality is Key", and even when you're flush with investor cash. He reminded us that the low survival rate of startups doesn't change just because you have more money—caution and careful management are still crucial.
Billy Suryajaya - COO of Nanovest, followed up with a reminder that success is often about Timing and Luck—factors that are beyond our control. His words were a gentle nudge to all founders to stay humble and aware of the uncertainties that lie ahead.
Fanny Verona - Country Manager of LINE Corp Indonesia, rounded off the session by speaking about the Delicate Balance between ego and the company's best interests. Her insights were a reminder that leadership is as much about restraint as it is about vision.

Session 2: Wisdom from the Trenches
The second session was equally riveting, with Sandy Permadi, Herwan Ng, and Lily Suriani taking the stage. Their combined wisdom offered a masterclass in navigating the complexities of the startup world.
Pak Sandy Permadi - CEO of Erigo, brought a sobering perspective on fundraising in today's economic climate. He pointed out that the days of raising "crazy money" are behind us, and startups need to respect the positive impact they create—even when faced with public scrutiny.
Pak Herwan Ng - BoC, Advisor, Mentor, Author, emphasized the importance of strong fundamentals and sustainable growth. His financial expertise shone through as he highlighted the often-overlooked practice of keeping a close eye on the basics, which ultimately keeps a company alive.
Lily Suriani - Country GM of Kredivo, closed the session by urging founders to believe in the value of their products. She shared how staying true to her company's value proposition helped them thrive, without the need to undersell against competitors.
The Purpose and the Perks
This event wasn’t just about sharing knowledge—it was about demonstrating the immense depth of expertise that our mentors bring to the table. For the founders who joined the Founder Institute program this chapter in 2024, these discussions were a taste of the invaluable guidance they can expect.
And as a special bonus, Pak Alex Rusli generously offered to share his WhatsApp contact—with a catch, of course! Only those who sign up as members at www.startuptician.com will get access. The catch is, you need to sign up no later than 31 Aug 2024 23:59.
Thank you to our partners ERIA: Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia and WU Hub Coworking Space for your support
